Last Date:

Location:
5 Thomas Circle, NW
Details:

Please join the DC Coalition Against Domestic Violence and The Person Center (TPC) for an advanced training on providing culturally specific and relevant services to African immigrant survivors of domestic violence in DC. This event will discuss the safety needs and considerations of African immigrant survivors, and will provide advocates with tools and best practices for working with African survivors in their programs and community. The 3-hour workshop will be led by Neway Wayessa, Client Advocate & Outreach Specialist at The Person Center, and is designed for advocates and service providers working to empower survivors and their families in DC. The training will be conducted primarily in spoken English, and interpretation is available upon request by emailing [email protected].

About our facilitator:

Neway Wayessa is the Client Advocate & Outreach Specialist at The Person Center (TPC). TPC is a project of Ujima Community, the National Center on Violence Against Women in the Black Community, and supports African immigrants who are experiencing or have experienced intimate partner violence, dating violence, or domestic violence, including sexual assault. TPC is the legacy of Dr. Amelia Missieledies, founder of The Person Center and tireless advocate who dedicated her life to helping women and children. The organization provides free and confidential support to address the needs of survivors of domestic violence residing in Washington, DC in their first language. We offer training for community-based and faith-based organizations serving African immigrants. We advocate for just policies that address the unique needs of African immigrants and collaborate with advocacy groups for legislation that protects all survivors.
