Residents encouraged to take the pledge to make a safer DC
Men Can Stop Rape (MCSR) and the Office of Victim Services and Justice Grants has re-launched the ASK DC personal security phone app and "Take the ASK DC Pledge" social media campaign. Recent research shows that whether it is on campus, at work, during leisure or at home, 1 in 4 women between the ages of 18 -35 are victims of sexual assault here in the nation's capital.
The ASK DC app, which was initially rolled out in 2013 has been revamped with a much improved user interface and real-time responsive functionality. Targeted to women ages 18-35 and available in 8 languages, the new app includes a prominently featured panic button, GPS location finder, SMS-group text functionality and real time access to emergency help and medical resources.
The new ASK DC app is available on iPhone and Android platforms and allows friends, family, and colleagues a unique opportunity to actively intervene in the event that a loved one needs help, while providing an ASK DC app user with an easy-to-use deterrent and security device that can be accessed 24 hours a day.
